Background and Purpose


Simple document sign off is a SharePoint based set of customizations that allow you to support sign off for any document stored in SharePoint.

It was initially developed to support medical testing procedures. Over time, medical testing procedures change as technology and testing methods improve. It is critical that updates to medical testing procedures are reviewed and understood by the medical support staff. This system was developed to support sign off on medical testing documents, whether they are new or updated test procedures.

After the users have signed off on the documents, the document owners can review all of the users who have signed off on the document in a central location, and potentially follow up with users who have not yet signed off on the document.

Of course, the ability to sign off on documents is useful in many other situations. Company policies, benefit policies, changes in key business processes; all need to be understood and reviewed when they are changed, this system formalizes tracking of that information.

There are third party tools out there that provide this functionality as part of their functionality. However, it is often a small part of a much larger feature set. If you just need the sign off ability, the cost and time needed to install and configure a third party system may not be worth it. This system is a relatively quick way to enable this functionality in your own environment at no additional cost.
